UN-Water Seminar on “UN-Water’s Perspective on Water Supply and
Sanitation and Needs for Capacity Development in Africa" - Kampala, Uganda | 15-18 March 2010

UNW-DPC is coordinating the “UN-Water Seminar on “UN-Water’s Perspective on Water Supply and Sanitation and Needs for Capacity Development in Africa” which will take place suring the International African Water Congress organized by the African Water Association on 15-18 March in Kampala, Uganda.

This seminar will focus on the current programmes and initiatives that UN-Water members and partners are currently implementing in Africa in the area of water supply and sanitation. The session will explore the different approaches and perspectives in search of synergies, needs and gaps in capacity development. The presentations in the seminar will concentrate on the most promising approaches implemented by UN-Water members and partners, highlighting especially the need for institutional capacity development and the establishment of cooperation in order to apply the best available technical, managerial and governance solutions.

UN-Water World Water Day Event | Nairobi, Kenya | 22 March 2010
On 22 March 2010 a UN-Water World Water Day 2010 event will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, to mark the World Water Day 2010, with the theme on “Water Quality”, under the slogan “Clean Water for a Healthy World”. Jointly hosted by UNEP, UN-Habitat, and UNSGAB, on behalf of UN-Water, and the Government of Kenya, the event will bring together policy makers, scientists and eminent personalities to discuss how to address the challenges of degrading water quality around the world.

Training workshop at the World Urban Forum | Rio de Janeiro, Brazil | 24 March 2010
UNW-DPC will be hosting a training workshop on “How to improve water efficiency in water utilities” at the fifth session of the World Urban Forum on 24 March 2010. The training workshop is aimed to provide the participants with an understanding of benchmarking as a tool for performance improvement and enable them to select the most appropriate performance indicators to measure performance of water utilities, as well as acquire knowledge and develop various skills relating to water conservation, leakage control and demand management.

The Water for Life Decade, 2005 - 2015
The United Nations General Assembly, in December 2003, proclaimed the years 2005 to 2015 as the International Decade for Action 'Water for Life'. The primary goal of the 'Water for Life' Decade is to promote efforts to fulfill international commitments made on water and water-related issues by 2015.
